Ask for Information they Have

One of the great ice-breakers is to ask someone for help. If the girl is in your algebra class, ask her what the homework assignment was, because you forgot it. If he's in your physics class, as if he thinks there'll be a test tomorrow. Your aim is to ask a friendly question and get a friendly answer. Again, you're sort of 'oiling the gears' - getting you both used to talking with each other as a fun, normal thing to do.
